U of Sask- HUSKIE SOCCER OPENS EXHIBITION SEASON WITH A VICTORY

Winnipeg, MB. – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies opened exhibition play with a 3-0 win over Winnipeg United Weston Soccer Club at the University of Manitoba today. Winnipeg United competes in the Manitoba Premier League and was the first test for the 2003 Huskies. The Huskies controlled the action most of the game with goals coming from Steven Krieg, Cory Regal, and Robin Ailsby. With goal tender Adam Chomas registering the shutout. “The team looked ready to play, and came out and played well together” said Huskie player Adam Ailsby. Defense was the key in the Huskies victory. Center midfielder Amilcar Prime and defenders Marcus Story and Mathew Mitchell paced the rest of the Huskies as they held Winnipeg United to no shots on net. Today’s match was the first test for the Huskies club and a good indicator of the team coming together. The next test for the Huskies comes tomorrow when they will face the Sons of Italy Soccer Club. The Sons of Italy are the defending 2002 Canadian National Senior Men’s Soccer Champions.
