Stonewall soccer club picks up three league trophies

Stonewall United went three-for-three this season in the Winnipeg Division of the Manitoba Major Soccer League.The men’s took home all available silverware in the division, winning the President’s Cup, the regular season title and, most recently, the division’s playoff title.Defeated CSSC for playoff titleUnited downed CSSC 2-0 in the division playoff final on Oct. 2 at Vince Leah Community Club in Winnipeg. Last month, Stonewall wrapped up the regular season title, topping the league standings with 14 wins, three losses, and a tie. United put away 61 goals and allowed only 21 against.It’s not the first season the club has seen huge success. In 2002, United won the league title, the playoff crown, the mid-season cup tournament and were also champions of the Kenora soccer tournament.The team is made up of a mixture of past and present Stonewall residents as well as a number of Winnipeg recruits. The team has played in Stonewall for over 30 years and has competed in a number of leagues throughout its existence.
